50 injured in RMG workers-police clash in Savar

Savar, Dec 25 (UNB) – At least 50 people were injured as garment workers clashed with police on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Monday.

Police said when the workers of DNS garment saw closure notice hanging on the factory gate located at Razphulbaria area they staged demonstration in front of the factory demanding their arrears.

Later, the agitated workers took to the street and put up barricade on the road, disrupting traffic movement for an hour from 11 am.

Being informed police rushed in and fired rubber bullet and tear gas shells to disperse them. The rowdy workers retaliated by pelting brickbats at the law enforcers, triggering a clash.

A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left 50 people injured.

A female garment worker was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries.
