The All-India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) and the South Western Railway Mazdoor Union (SWRMU), Hubli, on Wednesday staged protests in support of their demands.

Office-bearers and members of the union staged demonstrations outside the workshop, diesel shed, engineering office and C&W depot here.

‘Inordinate delay’

A.M. D’Cruz, general secretary of the SWRMU, told protesters that there had been an inordinate delay in resolving the workers’ demands.

Mr. D’Cruz said the protest was a clear warning to the Railways to address their demands, or face an intensified agitation.

Their demands included adopting safety measures for workers, promoting apex level group ‘C’ staff to group ‘B’, stopping outsourcing and filling all vacancies and scrapping new pension schemes, among others.
