89 workers say good bye to HPL

March 22 –89 expelled workers of HPL have received compensation and certificate of appreciation from the management during a farewell programme. A farewell programme has been organised jointly by union and management of KSPL and HPL.

In the Programme, Cde. Bishnu Rimal, President of GEFONT said " Its the achievement of our continue struggle. The workers who got the compensation should be utilized for personal betterment." President further added-" Wherever you work or live, GEFONT will always with you and also hope your continue contribution in Trade union movement."

On the occasion, Certificates of appreciation were given to all workers and local personnel by Khimti Hydro Power NICIWU for their valuable support during difficult days.

On the occasion, Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Mr. Alf Arne Ramslien expresses good wishes to all workers who receive compensation for their prosperous life and thanks to all who helps to settle the problem arose there. Mr. Tom Larsen, General Manager of HPL said"we should forget all of our difference and kept a side for better future of company and workers".

HPL is a joint venture company with investment of Norway and it is one of the big hydro power project in Nepal which was operated on Built operate and transfer basis. Based on the agreement every individual worker receives at least 6 years remuneration as compensation.

Himal power Ltd (HPL), which is established in Nepal as joint venture Company between Nepali and Norwegian investment, expelled 89 workers illegally and without any notice on last December 2011.

GEFONT affiliate Union- Nepal Independent Chemical & Iron Workers' Union (NICIWU) had been launched picketing and 12 hours relay hunger strike in front of office and Project site office since December 15, 2011 demanding reinstatement of workers.

Due to the 70 days long picketing and agitation, An agreement was signed between Nepal Independent Chemical & Iron Workers' Union (NICIWU) and Himal Power Limited(HPL) & Khimti Services Pvt.Ltd (KSPL) last month.
