HOLLYWOOD start Cillian Murphy has joined the list of celebrities supporting the Vita Cortex workers.

The 32 workers at the former foam plant in Cork have been holding a sit in for over two months in protest over redundancy payments.

For whatever its worth I really just wanted to pass on my admiration to you all for the courage and commitment you are displaying in your sit-in,” the actor wrote in support of the workers.

“To everyone following this situation from the outside it is more than clear that you have right on your side and that what you are highlighting is hugely important to us all as a nation.

“As a fellow Corkonian with stubborn tendencies, I salute your refusal to accept what is an obvious injustice, I wish ye strength.”

Earlier this month, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson telephoned the factory to offer support.

He contacted employee and lifelong Red Devils supporter Jim Power to express his support and admiration for the stance taken by staff.

Mr Power said the workers had received support from a range of public figures including former President Mary Robinson, linguist Noam Chomsky and charity worker Adi Roche.
