Railway strike set for WednesdayA standoff between union leaders and PKP state railways has led to stalemate, with train services run by regional operator Przewozy Regionalne cancelled for Wednesday as a result.17 Aug 11 Laborstart Union members had been demanding a pay rise of 250 zloty (60 euro) per month and a change in the management of Przewozy Regionalne. The rail operator was only prepared to raise wages by 100 zloty per month, however. Przewozy Regionalne is currently the largest rail operator in Poland, with around 2,700 trains running daily, and carrying some 300,000 passengers. It also runs the popular InterRegio services throughout the country. The strike is estimated to set back the company some 5 million zloty in lost revenue due to tomorrow’s action. (jb) |
