The union representing teachers in Solomon Islands is threatening nationwide strike action over a pay rise.

The National Teachers Association general secretary, Johnley Hatimoana, says so far they government has ignored calls for a cost of living adjustment for public servants.

He says they have been waiting since last October for a response to a demand for an 11.5 per cent adjustment.

Mr Hatimoana says teachers have been hit hard by the rising cost of living in Solomon Islands.
