Doctors, nurses, resident doctors and other medical staff pertaining to the ATE union announced two hospital strikes in the coming weeks, one on May 27 and the other on June 8. The strikes will affect 25 city hospitals, and aim to claim higher wages for staff.

They have reported the significant ‘abandonment’ of the establishment, and stated that 3,000 youths are awaiting surgery, which have a wait of “at least two and a half years.”

Strike measures began today at Children’s Hospital ‘Dr. Ricardo Gutiérrez’, as they went on a 24-hour strike today reporting a lack of professionals and work materials. Doctors at the hospital announced their ‘abandoning of the premises’ and ‘stopping of services’ due to the lack of medical supplies. They have also reported that in the intermediate care centre, only eight of the expected twenty-one doctors are coming in to work. Also surgeons who’ve been employed recently are only working two days per week due to lack of staff.
