The Independent Trade Union of Police will continue its strike on Tuesday in expectation of talks with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, whereas the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) has announced a meeting with Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.

Independent Trade Union of Police President Velimir Barbulov told Tanjug on Monday evening that the union did not meet with MUP officials or the prime minister on Monday, and added that the union members expect to hold talks with Dacic.

According to him, 70 percent of the union members were on strike on Monday requesting a 40 percent increase in salaries.

The Managing Board of the Police Union of Serbia (PSS), which is not on strike, set Monday a 14-day deadline to the Serbia government to voice its stand on the draft collective agreement on the MUP officers.

According to a MUP statement released on Monday evening, the MUP, police and unions representatives agreed at a meeting that the conditions of work in the police sector should be improved.
