NPA Workers Call Off Strike

Lagos — The two days warning strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) branch of the Senior Staff Association of Communications, Transport and Corporations, (SSACTAC) has been called off.

In addition, the workers have also withdrawn the seven days ultimatum they issued to the management. According to a statement signed by NPA's image maker, Iliya Musa, This is sequel to a meeting held by the NPA management and the house union on Friday, July 16, 2010."

Musa said that a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting jointly signed by the Managing Director, Abdulsalam Mohammed and the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Mr Adetola Atekoja on behalf of management, and the President General SSACTAC Comrade Adetunji Adesukanmi, the President, NPA Branch of SSACTAC, revealed that payment of the outstanding salary arrears would commence not later than August 10th 2010.

The communiqué, he said, further revealed that both parties agreed that all other outstanding issues which led to the strike action would be concluded on or before the end of August 2010.
