Workers at a Honda plant in China have won a raise after staging two strikes over pay, according to local media reports.

Guangzhou Honda Auto Parts Manufacturing gave staff a maximum allowance of 155 yuan, a rise of 55 yuan, but the move has failed to meet expectations.

Employees refused to work on May 17 and 22 over claims they are paid 50 times less than their Japanese colleagues. A Japanese employee claimed that one earns 50, 000 yuan a month, which excludes bonuses and allowances.

The company’s salary scheme is divided into five ranks, and under every rank, there are fifteen sub-ranks. There are 75 ranks in total. A source claimed to move up the five normally takes 15 years.

Employees have voiced their objection to the raise, but so far the company has not made any further offers. .
