The Autonomous Trade Union Federation of Banks, Insuran ce and Micro-finance of Guinea (FESABAG) resumed an indefinite strike on Monday t o press demands for higher salary.

Workers in banks, who recently suspended their strike, said its resumption follo wed the refusal of their employers to comply with the memorandum of understandin g that had been signed after the involvement of Prime minister Jean Marie Doré.

"We had pressed for a 60 per cent increase, but had 12 per cent but our employer s have even refused to honour it," one banker told PANA.

In the strike warning issued last March, FESABAG asked for â?a significant incr easeâ? of the general level of salaries in the banks to the tune of those in the public service and the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG).

Last February, the government significantly increased the salaries and allowance s of public servants, following a 40 per cent increase in the price of fuel.

FESABAG also called for a 100 per cent increase of the rate of repayment of medi cal bills with a view to establishing a general medical aid for the banking prof e ssion.

It also demanded the doubling of all premiums and allowances over such as school fees and retirement pensions.
