MEXICO, Dec 28 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Mexican Electrical Workers Union (SME) is preparing for a national strike next month in opposition to the government’s labour policies.

The Relations Secretary of SME, Fernando Amezcua, told Prensa Latina that they hope to carry out a big demonstration with the participation of other unions also affected by the anti labour policy of the government.

The SME began an open conflict with the government on Oct 11 when it was decided to close Luz y Fuerza del Centro Power Company through a presidential decree, which left over 44000 people unemployed.

According to the government, the state power company was closed due to the high inefficiency in its technical operations, fraudulent bills, and financial losses.

The Power generator units and infrastructure of the state-owned electricity distributor

are operating to give regular service to the Federal District of Mexico and the municipalities of various surrounding States.

“So, the technological base of the state energy company was not eliminated, they try to eliminate a union with a fight tradition in this country and complete without any resistance the privatisation of the energy sector in Mexico, said Amezcua. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
