UNI joins union mission to show solidarity, promote rights in Honduras

The mission is supporting all of the actions adopted by the Frente Nacional de Resistencia against the coup d’état.

UNI Americas is part of a global union mission to Honduras to show solidarity with the people of Honduras and their fight for the re-establishment of the constitution.

The Global Union Federations and the Union Confederation of the Americas (CSA/CSI) organised the trip.

“In opposition to the attempt to continue this act of fascism by the elite and powerful in Honduras, the global union movement urges a redoubling of effort and deepening of our solidarity actions with the union and human rights resistance movement in Honduras to ensure the re-establishment of constitutional rights and the rule of law, which is indisputably necessary for the return to power of the deposed president Manuel Zelaya Rosales,” the mission participants said in a statement.

The group said it is supporting all of the actions adopted by the Frente Nacional de Resistencia against the coup d’état, including the indefinite strike in the public sector that started on August 6. They also expressed support for the protestors from all over the country that are coming to Tegucigalpa y San Pedro Sula.

The Union Mission for Solidarity with Honduras is made up of representeatives from the following organizations: CSA/CSI, CTA y CGT Argentina, UGT y Forca Sindical Brasil, CGT Colombia, CNUS de República Dominicana, CTRN y CSACC, Costa Rica, CGTG y CCT Guatemala, UGT España, Internacional de la Construcción y la Madera (ICM), Federación Internacional de Trabajadores Industria Metalúrgica (FITIM), Federación Internacional de los Trabajadores en Transportes (ITF), Unión Internacional de Trabajadores de Agricultura y la Alimentación (UITA), Internacional de Servicios Públicos (ISP), UNI Americas and Internacional de la Educación (IE).
