PUNE: The Pune district revenue department employees' federation has called for a one-day dharna on Thursday in protest against the attack on an employee from the H-zone office on Tuesday.

Over 1,200 employees across the district will stop work for a day, president of the federation Laxmikant Pacharane, said here on Wednesday.

Pacharane said, "An employee from the E-zone was also beaten up by some local people and touts earlier. The government has not initiated any action against the assailants. Similar incidents have been registered in the last one year at the foodgrain distribution offices in the region. It has been noticed that the attackers used indecent language while speaking to the employees. Such attacks demoralise the employees. We demand strict action against the people involved in the attacks."

The federation will conduct a dharna at the office of the divisional commissioner on Thursday, Pacharane said. "We demand that the government take every step to ensure the safety of its staff at the workplace".

Pacharane added that the agitation will be intensified if the government fails to take proper action.
