Union head recognised

A senior member of the human resources development team at Post Publishing Plc, publisher of the Bangkok Post, is among 28 women to receive an award today from the Labour Protection and Welfare Department.

The awards are being presented to mark International Women's Day today at a ceremony being held at the Labour Ministry. Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm, royal consort to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, will preside over the ceremony.

Jarinporn Niyom, from Post Publishing, will receive an award in the category of outstanding female operating staff member of a large enterprise. Her nomination quotes Ms Jarinporn's dedication to labour rights activities both inside and outside the company. She has served as chairman of Post Publishing's labour union since 1998. She is also an associate judge with the Central Labour Court.

The other awardees include Phensuda Praiaram, deputy governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, for outstanding female executive in the public sector; Naowarat Songswaschai, vice-chairwoman of Oriental Garment, and Usa Khomkam, executive vice-president of Chantaburi Frozen Foods Co, for outstanding female executive in a large private enterprise.
