The massive quake disrupted communications and triggered at least one large fire at a textile factory. Luckily, the 155 Thais working there escaped unscathed. The only person hurt was 25yearold Thanapon Aisaengmueang, slightly injured while breaking down a door to rush to safety.

"All the workers are safe now," Dusit Wongnawa said yesterday in his capacity as Minister Counsellor at the Thailand Trade and Economic Office Division in Kaohsiung.

He said the employer had provided accommodation and food for the workers.

"He has also promised to repair the workers' accommodation as soon as possible," Dusit said.

Labour Ministry spokesman Pongsak Plengsaeng said Thai workers living overseas could seek help from relevant authorities. "We have a fund to assist Thai workers overseas," he said.
