The National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) announced on Wednesday that Thailand could face a labour shortage in the next five years due to shifting demographics and aging society.

The free movement of labour under Asean one market policy in the next four years could also contribute to shortage of highly skilled labour, the NESDB said.

According to the NESDB's report workers between 40 and 59 make up 41 percent of the total workforce, while those at 60 years, or older account for 11 percent of the total labour pool.
