Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has come under attack from paper airplanes launched by members of the Triumph underwear labour union.

About 10 members of the union held a rally yesterday at the government centre in the Chaeng Watthana area where the prime minister was giving a speech on his administration and human rights promotion and protection.

The speech was part of the Human Rights Fair held to mark Human Rights Day which fell last Thursday, Dec 10.

The union demanded that the government protect workers' welfare after Triumph International Co announced a plan to lay off half its labour force, or 1,959 staff.

A representative of the union handed the prime minister a petition after he finished his speech.

Copies of the union's press release were also used to make paper airplanes which were thrown at the premier as he was approaching an area where a paper airplane competition for children was to be held. Mr Abhisit's security team stopped the paper missiles from hitting their target.
