The State Enterprises Worker Relations Committee resolved at its meeting on Monday to propose an allowance of up to 2,000 baht per month for six months for workers of seven state enterprises on salaries below 15,000 baht per month, said Labour Minister Paithoon Kaewthong, the committee chairman.

The state enterprises whose workers would be entitled to get the allowance are: the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO), Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), Expressway Authority of Thailand (EAT), and Government Housing Bank (GHB).

Mr Paithoon said if the proposal is approved by the cabinet, workers at the seven state enterprises on less than 15,000 baht would get up to a maximum 2,000 baht allowance for six months. Their base salary plus the living allowance would be capped at 15,000 baht per month.

The allowance would be paid from the budget of each state enterprise, he said.

Mr Paithoon said other state enterprises can submit a proposal for the extra allowance to the committee.
