Eighty ailing companies which have participated in a government career training programme can continue hiring a total of 50,000 workers, Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu said Monday.

Under the Career Seedling project initiated by the Democrat Party to which Korbsak belongs, those companies have pledged not to lay off the workers within one year.

The project's duration is one year and it is now running for three months. Korbsak said a budget of Bt7 billion would be allocated to this project if the government budget bill passed the anticipated parliamentary approval, in addition to a Bt6billion budget approved since the beginning.
